Task 3. Climate change impact assessment

Key question: How are the environmental changes linked to climate change impacting human systems.

According to Nasa, global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner.

In this task you will examine the impact of climate change on the environment and explore the potential impacts on human systems.

Identify a biome to examine the ecological and human impacts of climate change.

Introduction: 200 words

A brief description of climate change and the impacts.

  • Definition of climate change

  • The causes of climate change (referenced dot points)

  • The predicted impacts of climate change on ecosystems and human systems (referenced dot points).

  • Graphs and maps showing the causes and impacts of climate change.

Biome impact 400 words

Explain the impacts of climate changes on a biome of your choice.

Biome definition and map of the global distribution of the biome

  • Predicted impacts of temperature/precipitation/sea level rises on the biome. (Include minimum 3 media / research quotes)

  • Annotated Maps of possible climate impacts (losses etc.)

  • Specific country or ecosystem examples of the predicted impacts. (Media and research sources very useful here)

Human Impact: 400 words

Explain the impact of climate related changes to your biome on human systems.

  • Use a specific LEDC

  • Environmental impacts

  • Ecosystem services impacts

  • Social impacts

Present your research as a multimodal presentation or report.

Climate investigation checklist - have I done the following?

  • Annotated, labelled and explained the visual resources.

  • Outlined the causes and impacts of climate change.

  • Used media reports and case studies to examine the impacts at the ecosystem level

  • Described the economic, social and political impacts of these changes

  • Used an abundance of graphs, maps and tables to illustrate my findings (annotated and labelled)

  • Included the bibliography
